Tennis Fair Play Guide

This guide sets out the rules and etiquette for use of the Club's tennis facilities. Its aim is to provide a fair and well balanced tennis programme that matches the needs of players of all types and levels. If you have any questions, comments or suggestions, please contact reception or complete a 'Memo to the Manager'.

General

1. High Temperature - Surface Damage - The 'Thumb Test'
If you feel any give in the surface when applying pressure with your thumb or if the playing surface becomes disturbed, even slightly, then please STOP PLAY IMMEDIATELY and notify reception straight away. Continuing to play under these conditions may lead to major surface damage which will require long term closure of the courts for repair.

2. Bookings/Cancellations

All club tennis activities must be pre-booked via reception. Prior to going on court, all players must register at reception.

Booking times:
6am/8am - 10pm weekdays (please refer to Club opening times)
8am - 8pm weekends

Outside off peak times (12:00pm - 5:00pm weekdays) players may only pre-book one session of freeplay or leagueplay e.g. it is not acceptable for two or four people to book courts back to back. Of course if courts are free on the day players are welcome to play on. To cancel a freeplay, leagueplay or familyplay court please notify reception as soon as possible (so that we can release the court to others) but no later than the time allocated. Court bookings will be held for 10 minutes from court time, after which they will be reallocated. Fairplay: Failure to cancel prebooked courts or abide by bookings guidelines may lead to suspension of all booking privileges.

3. Seasonal Changes
The tennis programme changes for summer (1st May) and winter (1st September). Please see reception for details.

4. Dress Code
Trainers with non-marking soles must be worn. Under no circumstances can running shoes or shoes with pronounced ridges or hard soles be worn as these may cause permanent damage. Whilst the Club does not require whites to be worn, suitable attire is required and shirts must be worn at all times.

5. Charges
There is no charge for court hire.
- floodlights £4 per hour (or league session)
- racquet hire £2 per session / £10 per course
- Club play, Group and Individual coaching see below
All charges must be paid in full prior to going on court.

6. Fairplay and Etiquette
Under no circumstances may drinking glasses or bottles be taken on court; plastic beakers are available from the bar.

Please leave the courts in a tidy condition and place any rubbish in the bins provided.

Please keep unnecessary noise to a minimum so as not to distract fellow players.
Tennis balls are expensive, players should not depend on other players to always provide decent balls.

NB: Please wait until a point is played before crossing another court or retrieving balls.
